A PMID (PubMed Identifier or PubMed Unique Identifier[1]) is a unique number With reference to a given set of objects, a unique identifier is any identifier which is guaranteed to be unique among all identifiers used for those objects and for a specific purpose. There are three main types of unique identifiers, each corresponding to a different generation strategy: assigned to each PubMed PubMed is a free search engine for accessing the MEDLINE database of citations, abstracts and some full text articles on life sciences and biomedical topics. The United States National Library of Medicine at the National Institutes of Health maintains PubMed as part of the Entrez information retrieval system. Listing an article or journal in citation Loosely, a citation is a reference to a published or unpublished source .[citation needed] More precisely, a citation is an abbreviated alphanumeric expression (e.g. [Newell84]) embedded in the body of an intellectual work that denotes an entry in the bibliographic references section of the work for the purpose of acknowledging the relevance of of life sciences Biology is the science of studying living organisms. Prior to the nineteenth century, biology came under the general study of all natural objects called natural history and biomedical Biomedical research , in general simply known as medical research, is the basic research, applied research, or translational research conducted to aid and support the body of knowledge in the field of medicine. Medical research can be divided into two general categories: the evaluation of new treatments for both safety and efficacy in what are scientific journal In academic publishing, a scientific journal is a periodical publication intended to further the progress of science, usually by reporting new research. There are thousands of scientific journals in publication, and many more have been published at various points in the past . Most journals are highly specialized, although some of the oldest articles. The related Pubmed Central PubMed Central is a free digital database of full-text scientific literature in biomedical and life sciences archive may additionally assign a separate number, a PMCID (PubMed Central Identifier), normally written with a PMC prefix.
As of 2005[update], there are roughly between 15 and 16 million PMID numbers in use, starting from 1,[2] and about 1 million new numbers are added each year. Unique Identifier [UID] is the search field tag used in the PubMed search query.
By using the PMID as a search argument (with or without the [uid] field tag), the relevant abstract will be displayed by PubMed. Multiple PMIDs in one search will yield all abstracts (it is interpreted as an OR operation). PMID itself should not be included in the search.
- Example: to search for Chobanian AV, Bakris GL, Black HR, et al. (May 2003). "The Seventh Report of the Joint National Committee on Prevention, Detection, Evaluation, and Treatment of High Blood Pressure: the JNC 7 report". JAMA 289 (19): 2560–72. doi The Digital Object Identifier System is a managed system for persistent identification of content-related entities on digital networks. These entities may be content items (digital files, physical objects, abstract works), or any related entities in a content transaction (e.g. licenses, parties, etc.). "DOI" is sometimes used to mean the:10.1001/jama.289.19.2560. PMID 12748199.

- Enter 12748199 in the search box.
To search in combination with other terms, one must enter the search field tag, e.g., smith [au] AND (10403340 [uid] OR vaccines [mh]).
